‘Easy’ makeup tools, universal design and the beauty of inclusivity

GUIDE Beauty is on a mission to reinvent makeup application in a way that makes it easier for ALL users

From the perfect wing or cat-eye to clump free mascara and brows on point, who amongst us couldn’t do with a little help when putting on our makeup? As a celebrity makeup artist and educator, Terri Bryant had seen and heard from many of her clients and friends that applying makeup could be both challenging and frustrating, and typical makeup products and tools could be difficult or impossible to use. It was following her diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease and the subsequent challenges with her own dexterity that she set about reimagining the world of beauty tools that could help not only people with disabilities, but easier makeup application for everyone.

Launched in 2020 with 4 products, including the award-winning best seller GUIDE Eyeliner Duo, Bryant approaches beauty through the practice of Universal Design (when we design with all people in mind, we create the best products for everyone), and combines innovative features and ideal formulations.

GUIDE’s most recent initiative sees actress, author, style icon and disability advocate Selma Blair joining the company as Chief Creative Officer. Blair, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018 has consulted on the introduction of 2 new products including a makeup brush collection that utilizes a clever patented GUIDE Ring, and a multi-tasking shadow palette that sits in an easy-to-open paper compact. Resting the ring between your fingers and thumb makes for an easier more steady application, and the shorter handle and ergonomic grip makes the brushes easier to hold.

From makeup to fashion, and a perfect example of how when we surround ourselves with different viewpoints, lived experiences and learning we can truly build better products.
